Damned Love - María Francisca Valenzuela
Why do we suffer for love? Have we stopped to think that perhaps it's because of the way we were taught to love? Disney princesses and Hollywood movies are just some of the references that have led women around the world to believe that there is a soulmate, a Prince Charming waiting for them, and that without him, life will never be enough. For this reason, if they find him, they must cling to that love no matter what: giving him all their time, energy, unconditional support, and almost devotion. This is because society tells us that, without a romantic partner, a woman's happiness is not complete. In her first book, Francisca Valenzuela (@franciscalafeminista) introduces us to the concept of romantic love and dissects it to show us that “that experience and feeling that we have always been taught as something so good and beautiful can put us in a place of extreme inequality.” Cursed Love is a call to all those women who once fell – or still are – in a harmful relationship, and to those who have doubts about how they relate, to think about love from a feminist perspective. It invites critical reflection to propose an alternative love that is based on the construction of a safe space, grounded in reciprocity, trust, empathy, and good treatment. “A love that believes in our freedom and in the possibility of being whoever we want to be.”
